How Hard Can Love Be? by Holly Bourne [Book Review]

How Hard Can Love Be? by Holly Bourne (The Spinster Club #2)

Release Date: February 1, 2016

Genre: Young Adult | Contemporary | Feminisim

Amber, Evie and Lottie: three girls facing down tough issues with the combined powers of friendship, feminism and cheesy snacks. Both hilarious and heart-rending, this is Amber’s story of how painful – and exhilarating – love can be, following on from Evie’s story in Am I Normal Yet?

All Amber wants is a little bit of love. Her mum has never been the caring type, even before she moved to California, got remarried and had a personality transplant. But Amber’s hoping that spending the summer with her can change all that.

And then there’s prom king Kyle, the guy all the girls want. Can he really be interested in anti-cheerleader Amber? Even with best friends Evie and Lottie’s advice, there’s no escaping the fact: love is hard.

Next book of The Spinster Club Series. A book all about our Amber! I imagine her a Merida from Walt Disney’s Brave. But a TALLER VERSION of course! HAHAHAHA. It is all about Amber’s summer in California.

So far I love Amber’s story than Evie. i got to know more about our tall heroine here. This book is full of feels! I mean there’s a moment I can be all mad, then happy, feeling funny, cheesy all over then sad. A roller coaster of emotions to be exact.Every page makes me want to read more.  I love the pacing of the story too. Every page turns on the right time. I noticed that Holly is a Potterhead, am I right? HAHA. I squealed every time I read a HP related part. The magic really lives!

There’s always this note at the start of every chapter: “Things that are destined to fail” That part is a bit funny when I realized what is the purpose of it! Amber’s story is very readable to everyone. I love the cheesy parts and their Spinster’s meetings too. Friendship is much stronger than before. Also the voice for feminism never fails. I was able to understand it more. In short this book is also educating its readers. KUDOS TO HOLLY! *party poppers with cheesy snacks

This is the hardest part, choosing 5 favorite lines. I had a lot! Bloody hell, this is hard (Read in Ron Weasley’s Voice) but here it is anyway!

FAVORITE LINES

It’s easy to fall in love when you’re young and the sun is shinning and you feel like the world is just there to have an argument with, with someone you adore by your side. But then life happens, and you start fighting against them, rather than with them.

You should always pick someone who’s on your side, Amber. It’s too hard to be fighting the world, and the person you love.

Life doesn’t always have to be about changing the world. Sometimes its about living your life for you…Trying to find some happiness, completely, selfishly, but just for you…And you should adopt the same lack of fear you have in your feminism to your search for happiness.

It’s worth hurting if you’re living, if you’re doing the right thing. And telling people you love that you love them is always the right thing.

Failure is never getting hurt. Because that means you’ve not done anything you cared about.
